With the benefit of a license, we can publish who is playing and this year we have two designated location, New Market outside the Welcome supermarket and outside the old HSBC bank on sheepgate. Here is the current schedule of performances and we hope you enjoy but please note there is always a chance of last minute changes!
Please find below a brief description of the music acts we are looking forward to perform at the 2024 Food Festival. Where applicable you can go to their online details by clicking on the name.
The Vibettes
The Vibettes are a lively, uplifting vintage duo bringing back the sound of the 1940’s with a fun twist.
Delivering those vocal harmonies that were so well known of the time, they bring up-tempo swing and boogie-woogie rhythms with warm character performances.
Delight in timeless songs from artists that continue to be so well loved, such as The Andrews Sisters, Doris Day, Bing Crosby, Vera Lynn and many more!
Tin River
Tin River are favourites at local folk clubs, festivals, sessions and pub gigs and comprise Skip Shipley (melodeon and vocals), Mim Barnes (whistles and vocals) and Marya Parker (guitar and vocals). They are musical magpies picking up tunes and songs from a wide variety of sources and deliver them either acappella or with accompaniment, making for an interested and varied repertoire. Based in the Waveney Valley area, they’ve been playing together and separately for over 40 years in a range of ensembles
Michael Thrower
Mike plays original songs and cover versions acoustically/semi electrically in a bluesy folk style and has been performing in public for over 10 years.
Simon Squibb
A local musician playing a variety of tunes and songs including Appalachian, bluegrass, delta blues, modern folk and folk rock
Greg Hall
A guitarist and singer / songwriter from Beccles who performs a mixture of his own original songs and covers of rock songs from the 1980’s to present day.
His original songs focus on raising awareness of men’s health risks and resilience-building techniques and can be found on all the music streaming platforms.
Greg’s single ‘Empty (Love Release Me)’ was featured by Apple Music on their ‘New in Indie’ playlist alongside well-known artists such as Florence and the Machine and Tame Impala. Two of his other releases (‘Malicious Whisper’ and ‘Koori Man’) have been played on local radio stations.
Thurlton and Norton Community Gospel Choir
The members are an eclectic mix of people from different backgrounds who share a love of singing, particularly of songs with the Gospel sound. Their repertoire, usually sung a Capella, varies from well known oldies such as Amazing Grace and Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho, to more recent songs such as Marvellous and Down in the River. The choir also enjoy learning new twists to familiar favourites.
Dorothy’s Dog Busking Band
Playing songs from some of the greatest eras of music by some of the greatest songwriters of their time. A mix of experiences and not so experienced musicians, you will find their infectious fun loving attitude to playing the music they love feeds over to the audience watching them.
Rumpus Ukulele
A large group of likeminded, young at heart people who do what they like and like what they do – “making a rumpus with ukuleles”. They strive to have fun playing ukuleles within a welcoming and social community that meets for enjoyment. Playing a repertoire of retero pop, folk, country and old time classics
A classical and flamenco guitarist duo playing a mix of their own compositions as well as traditional pieces and modern songs with a classical edge.
Silver Linings
Silver Linings is a covers band that plays a selection of songs from the 1950s right up to the current day. They bring their own quirky style to the songs using a variety of instruments including acoustic and electric guitars and bass, mandolin, ukuleles and harmonica! The band play various gigs each year all around Norfolk and Suffolk.
Greg Powles
Greg Powles is a Lowestoft based writer, songwriter and performer. His one-man show ‘The Busker’ – about a man who spends all his spare time entertaining the passing public at a bus station – toured in 2023 and was called ‘simply incredible’, ‘brilliant’ and ‘unlike anything I have ever seen before’. Greg recently led an Arts Council-funded project that created a touring music and memories show for care homes and community dementia groups.
Inga McNamara and Phil Reed are a songwriting duo, writing songs about love, loss and redemption! Their music has been described as a hypnotic fusion of Americana, Folk and Pop.
The duo’s songs are acoustic based but they also perform together as part of The Cabin Band whose debut album Echoes is out now on Spotify, Apple etc.
The Ballard Bootleggers are a folk trio from Suffolk, performing foot stomping, fast paced, traditional ‘old time’ music from America and Europe.
